Merriman will keep his future…

I couldn’t have been happier today when I heard that Shawne Merriman will, in fact, undergo surgery to repair ligaments in his rubber knee. I had posted earlier about how upset I was that Lights Out was going to ruin his future, just because he didn’t want to sit out the season that happened to label his team as “Super Bowl favorites”.

I’m not sure what changed his mind, hell maybe it was a 20th doctor’s opinion that we don’t know about. But I would like to think that it has nothing to do with the unexpected defeat that the Chargers took from Carolina last week. Merriman was probably watching the game, saying to himself, “Yea, maybe this isn’t our year…we’re losing to the Panthers”. The Chargers’ Week 1 loss may have been a blessing in disguise, atleast for the Spanos family.

Whatever it was that suddenly dropped a brain with logical reasoning into the head of Shawne Merriman, I personally thank you. I have somwhat of a “homer” love for the guy, but no one can deny his talent and his potential to become one of the greatest NFL defenders ever. With that said, I wish Shawne a speedy recovery and I look forward to him returning and dominating as usual.
