The Juice squeezed in a cell for at least 9 years

The 61-year-old Hall of Famer listened stone-faced, his wrists in shackles, as Judge Jackie Glass pronounced the sentence — a maximum 33 years behind bars with eligibility for parole after less than a third of that.

Moments before the sentence, which could likely translate to a maximum of 19 years served in prison, Simpson made a rambling, five-minute plea for leniency, simultaneously apologizing for the holdup as a foolish mistake and trying to justify his actions.

The judge made it clear that while Simpson is in state prison, he will remain in his own personal cell to protect him from the general population due to his celebrity. Although Simpson’s lawyer suggested again that his client was a victim of payback for his acquittal in Los Angeles, the judge didn’t want to hear it and she simply denied any wrongdoing on her part.

Whether you’re sympathetic for O.J. or you feel like he got what he deserves, watching his downward spiral is not easy. O.J. was one of the greatest football players to ever play the game, he was a celebrity, a regular figure in the media, etc. and to watch his life take a nose dive for the past 15 years is a very sad story. “The Juice” went from the top of the world to the ultimate bottom.
