NBA: Suns Scorch The Clippers In First Game Under Gentry

Clippers Suns Basketball

When Alvin Gentry was announced as the new head coach for the Phoenix Suns, he talked about the “old style” and the D’Antoni-like offense. It didn’t take long for the Suns to go back to their old ways.

The Suns ripped the Clippers a new one last night, 140-100. In the first half alone, the Suns scored 81 points on 75% shooting from the floor. Oh and by the way, the Suns didn’t have Jason Richardson!

So Gentry’s first game as the Suns’ head coach has him looking like a saint. The team had an energy that has been absent all year. They shot well. They passed well. They worked well, together.

We can’t say too much after just one game against a horrible Clippers’ squad, but if this is the Suns’ true colors then Amare may want to stick around.

Yeah, I wouldn’t put much stock in this win. All of the Clippers bigs are banged up or out so it wasn’t a great barometer against what the Clippers can really do.

Regardless of who it’s against, 140 points is a sign of what’s to come in Phoenix — or least the style of play they’re returning to. Might be a good idea to hold on to Amare after all…
