First Gitmo Prisoner Released Under Obama’s Presidency

After seven years in U.S. captivity, a British man is back at home today. Binyam Mohamed claimed that he was tortured for a number of years at a covert CIA site in Morocco. And of course there will be the fair shar of lawsuits, as MSNBC reports:

Mohamed’s claims of torture, abuse and extraordinary rendition are at the heart of several lawsuits. Lawyers on both sides of the Atlantic are suing for secret documents they say prove the United States sent Mohamed to Morocco and that Britain knew of the mistreatment — a violation under the 1994 U.N. Convention Against Torture.

When questioned by the media, Mohamed responded that he was not “physically nor mentally capable of facing the media.”

This is the first prisoner released under President Obama’s new idea of closing down Guantanamo Bay Detention Camp within the next year. However the HUGE question still remains: where are you going to put all the terrorists that are sitting in Gitmo? I’m not bashing Obama and I have no affiliation with either party, but I feel like the President didn’t really think this one through.

Rather than making the statement of “closing Gitmo in a year”, he should have developed a plan on where to put all the lunatics that are sitting in the prison. And if he really wanted to create more jobs, like he has said repeatedly, then he could develop a team to do the research and develop a strategy on relocating the prisoners. Two birds with one stone, close Gitmo and create a few dozen jobs.

I’m not saying I could do it any better than President Obama, but c’mon. We can’t just say we’re closing down the prison that houses all the terrorists and not have anywhere to put them. Sure, the Dakotas have plenty of space and no one lives in Wyoming, but you can’t throw ’em all in an underground bunker and think that solves the problem.
