NFL Hall Of Famer To Be Released On Tuesday

The Indianapolis Colts have agreed to release future Hall of Fame wide receiver, Marvin Harrison. In order to keep Harrison, the Colts would have needed him to take a paycut. However Marvin Harrison is the franchise’s all-time leading receiver and his agent is Tom Condon (’nuff said).

Although Harrison is at the ripe age of 36, he feels that he deserves the $6 million he was due in 2009 and that he has the ability to be a number one receiver. Teammates understood Harrison’s move and they basically said that he had to do what he had to do.

And that’s a type of football-philosophy that many of us fans don’t understand. We always say, “if that was me, I’d take a paycut to play with Peyton and finish my career with the team that drafted me, blah, blah, blah”. But we’re not there, we have no idea what it’s like to be a football player. We must almost remind ourselves that no matter how long an NFL player’s contract is, it’s still a year-to-year deal. In other words, a Marvin Harrison making $6 million per year can be cut at anytime and lose any potential money in his contract. So when a player, especially like Harrison, is not willing to take a paycut, we can’t bash him. These guys throw their lives (sorry to be dramatic) on the field in order to entertain a living room full of crazy strangers that root for the colors their wearing. Sure the players love the game and that has to do with their playing too, but let these guys have to get the money while they can.

Who cares where Marvin goes, I’ll wait to see him in Canton.

Marvin Harrison’s Credentials:

  • 8 Pro Bowls
  • Super Bowl Ring
  • 14,550 Yards (Fourth All-Time)
  • 128 Receiving Touchdowns (Fifth All-Time)
