Eminem Is Garbage, IMO

I personally cannot stand Eminem and the fact that his fan base is so immense, but I do give him credit for making the scariest music video since Thriller.  It’s not that he’s a white guy in a predominantly black music culture and I’m just a “hater”, it’s the fact that I really don’t think his stuff is that good.

Every once in a while you can listen to a song from one of his albums and recognize some serious writing ability, lyrical geniusness. But the other nine tracks are crap, radio fads. For people to say that Marshall Mathers is one of the greatest rappers alive right now is somewhat disturbing. Have we forgotten about Nas, Jay-Z, Black Thought, Mos Def, Talib Kwali? Can people really compare Eminem to any of those guys? With a straight face? Not to mention, you have to have the ‘voice’ of a rapper to be a rapper (if that makes any sense), and Eminem just doesn’t have it. Think of the unmistakable voices of Biggie, Tupac, Jay-Z…that stuff sticks. Eminem? Not so much.

Think about a person blasting Eminem from the car speakers. It looks ridiculous. Have a quality rapper blasting from the speakers and people are like, “Oh, he/she knows the right stuff”.

Call me crazy but I think Eminem is garbage. I’m sure I’ll hear a lot for this.

I don’t see the point in putting IMO. Anyone with half a brain would understand that eminem isn’t music, rap isn’t music. Rap comes from the word Crap. Try Listening to Some REAL Music. A Little Something Called Rock!

Oh, how we love the shallow-minded.

      Thanks for the comment.

        You’re Welcome 😀

And shallow-minded is a little bit of a loose term, I really have tried listening to the stuff, I just can’t handle it’s depression, and there’s something else about it that makes me think, wow, who listens to this? I mean fair enough, some people must like it, because it’s mainstream. It’s not like I’ve purposefully assumed it was bad because I genuinely don’t enjoy listening to it. Thanks for your time 😀

Well here’s the thing….In My Opinion,

Music is a form of art, and art comes in many shapes, types, and sizes. The definition of music (as your title implies) is: “an art of sound in time that expresses ideas and emotions in significant forms through the elements of rhythm, melody, harmony, and color”. This can be displayed in a number of different ways. Rap may not be your preference of music, it’s not mine either, but it is in fact music. I understand the argument of use of instrument in rap, or lack thereof, but the very same audio-boarded rap song can be performed and recorded with live instruments…but rappers will use what’s selling records. Not to mention, it’s the innovation in music that has given producers the ability to use other technologies other than the instruments that have been around for years.

Give Jay-Z’s “Death of Autotune” a listen and see what you think.

I used the name as a way of bludgeoning Rap lol. I guess it is music, i just don’t find it any good to listen to, in comparison to art, I enjoy all forms of art, some more than others, but rap really doesn’t appeal to me, I dislike Jay-Z, My definition of music is simply put an artistic response in the form of melody. Something about it really hits me hard on the hate side, if that makes sense to you. It is preference, but in my opinion a good song should have a good melody, with a fair length, good singing (loose term again, sorry) a few instruments, then again just a voice can be pretty good, but it should be something you can relate to. Try some Nirvana, Maiden, Sabbath or any rock/metal, thats my preference. 😀

        I understand.

Nirvana is a great band, a band that was unfortunately cut short. And although I enjoy their music, there are more than a fair share that completely HATE grunge. My personal opinion of the “grunge” sound is that Nirvana was the only band that perfected it.

My favorite genre of music happens to be classic rock and reggae. Rock from the 60’s and 70’s was, in my opinion (over-used yet?), the best music of all time. Led Zeppelin, Hendrix, Cream, The Who, etc. How can anyone argue? And for reggae, some great lyrics to go with even better instruments (listen to Steel Pulse).

        Thanks again for the comments.

OMFG, being honest, I was sceptical of you at the start, i agree with everything you just stated. RIP Cobain. Grunge was more of a movement than a genre, if you think about it. It led to all sorts or music, my least favourite of the offspring being indie, it’s too mainstream. Jimi Hendrix is still THE best guitarist to ever live, and only after four years of playing. I would say the 60-80 and possibly very early 90s. My arguement is totally about “why do people hate this sort of music, and like this new stuff, that i personally think is trash?” I’m not big on genres, overall, if something is dark, I class it metal, if it’s light or just not so heavy… rock. My two preferred genres. Metal is really just a type of rock, but whatever, I hopw you know where I’m coming from with this. I shall listen to Steel Pulse. I guess another thing sbout rap and RnB I dislike, is there is NO singing, its talking, sped up :/ It’s ironic, blues invented blues rock/classic rock, which is the brother of the rhythm and blues, yet they are nothing alike.
